Jasmine Chen

Jasmine is a Chinese-Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in the traditional, unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations and T'karonto (Dish with One Spoon Territory). Her work has engaged with communities across Canada in repertory festivals, independent theatres, site-specific spaces, regional theatres and outdoor venues. At the core of her work is her dedication to community building, compassionate storytelling and interdisciplinary collaboration. Select performance credits include: the Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival, Canadian Stage, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Young People’s Theatre, The Arts Club, Prairie Theatre Exchange. Select directing credits include: Hilot Means Healer (Cahoots Theatre/b current), Yellow Rabbit (Silk Bath/Soulpepper), Madness of the Square (Lift Off/Cahoots), Le Ba-Ta-Clan (Opera 5). Residencies: Nightswimming Theatre, b current Performing Arts, Lemontree Creations, Cahoots Theatre, and Gateway Theatre. Jasmine is a recipient of the Gina Wilkinson Award for Female Directors, Stratford Festival Jean Gascon Award, Toronto Harold Award, and is a Dora Mavor Moore Award Nominee. Jasmine is the Artistic and Community Producer at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond, BC.
